<br />Richard Dockett, 6844 Crest Ave <br />Mr. Dockett asked to be certain the City is doing all they could for the victims of the 2008 flood. <br />He encouraged the new Council to pursue MSD in preventing future floods. <br /> <br />Mayor Welsch noted that she confirmed with Finance Director, Ms. Watson that money had <br />been set aside for the flood victims on Wilson for the Fiscal Year 2011. She noted the City is <br />waiting to hear back from the Federal government at this time. Mayor Welsch asked Ms. <br />Watson if she had an estimate of time to which Ms. Watson replied that they have not given a <br />time frame but it has been moved to the U.S. Senate. <br /> <br />Bill Corrigan <br />Mr. Corrigan introduced himself as a candidate for the St. Louis County Executive. <br /> <br />Gregory Pace, 7171 Westmoreland <br />Mr. Pace noted that on March 4 he had spoken with the Human Resource Director Ms. Williams <br />and was told that the YEP program was open to all U City’s sixteen to nineteen year old and <br />would be placed on the web site as soon as the Coordinator position was filled. He stated that <br />according to the Charter 2.16.30 paragraph (b) which essentially requires all jobs to be <br />publically advertised. Mr. Pace noted that the job was never posted on the web site. He said it <br />was posted at the University City High School but all other U City youth were excluded. Mr. <br />Pace said that one of the youth jobs was given to a student who does not live in University City. <br />Council should asked why government sanctioned bias and exclusion does not merit concern. <br /> <br />Wilma Kennell, 1332 Purdue <br />Ms. Kennell asked what the progress was to establish a Chamber of Commerce. She noted <br />that a Bicycle shop or a health food store would be great businesses for Olive. <br /> <br />Mayor Welsch mentioned that at the Council Retreat forming a Chamber of Commerce was <br />discussed and there is a group of residents pursuing this and the City is looking at the hiring of <br />an economic development person to pursue this. <br /> <br />I. CITY MANAGER’S REPORT <br />1. <br />The Chair of the U City/Olivette Joint Redevelopment Task Force, Marc Jacob provided an <br />update of activities happening at the I170/Olive intersection. Mr. Jacob noted that Olive <br />Blvd is a prime redevelopment spot in University City and also in Olivette. He said the task <br />force was established for a six month term and asked the Council to extend it. Mr. Jacob <br />noted that the task force was given the goal to fully explore opportunities to pursue joint <br />redevelopment initiatives between University City and Olivette. He said the task force has <br />come up with a number of redevelopment principals which includes sustainability, mixed <br />land use, cultural amenities and affordability which are close to being finalized. The task <br />force has also discussed environmentally friendly initiatives in the area that would allow the <br />cities to be leaders in the region in this area and also how the task force would function as <br />an equal approval body. Mr. Jacob stated they have had professionals such as architects, <br />the Urban Land Institute (ULI), storm water run off, come to speak to the task force. He said <br />that recently at a Federal Reserve conference, it was mentioned that money is available for <br />municipalities working together for sustainability. Mr. Jacob asked the Council to extend the <br />Task Force for another six months. <br /> <br /> <br /> 2 <br /> <br />
