<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 55-R-81 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> Recommending that the President of the <br /> United States and the Congress of the <br /> United States enter into a Bilateral Nuclear <br /> Weapons Freeze with the Soviet Union and <br /> That the Missouri Legislature <br /> Adopt a similar resolution <br /> <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The United States and the Soviet Union are engaged <br /> in a nuclear weapons race and are testing, producing, and deploying nuclear <br /> <br /> warheads, nuclear missiles and their delivery systems; and <br /> <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States is appropriating huge <br /> sums of money for such testing, production and deployment of nuclear <br /> <br /> warheads and weapons; and <br /> <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the potential for devastating destruction by nuclear <br /> warfare is so great that any use of nuclear weapons is unthinkable; <br /> <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Univer- <br /> <br /> sity City urge the President and Congress of the United States to immedi- <br /> ately initiate and enter into a verifiable mutual weapons freeze with the <br /> <br /> Soviet Union; <br /> <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of University City <br /> urge Senator John Danforth, Senator Thomas Eagleton, Congressman William <br /> <br /> Clay and Congressman Robert Young to sponsor or cosponsor resolutions <br /> <br /> in the Congress of the United States calling on President Ronald Reagan <br /> to immediately propose to the Soviet Union an immediate mutual halt to <br /> <br /> the testing, producing and deployment of nuclear weapons and their de- <br /> <br /> livery systems; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of University City <br />
