Session 1744
January 25, 1999

Mr. Lieberman suggested convincing East West Gateway to add other criteria to their
decision making process, such as quality of life. Mr. Ollendorff agreed with Mr. Lieberman
and suggested that East West Gateway be convinced to add other criteria, such as the
traffic study information.

Mayor Pro Tem Wagner believes that the traffic studies and the number of fire calls in this
area is very impodant and should definitely be brought to East West Gateway's attention.

Mr. Littlefield believes that the City Council should become more engaged in the entire
process. Maybe attend meetings or set up meetings like Clayton and Shrewsbury has done.
Mr. Sharpe asked if the City Manager had been involved with any meetings. Mr. OIlendorff
responded that he had been at six different meetings with East West Gateway and Parsons
Group. Mayor Pro Tem Wagner said that he was unaware of the City Manager attending
these meetings anti asked Mr. Ollendorff to prepare reports of any future meetings he
attends.

Mr. Todd Thompson, University City's appointment to the MetroLink Community Working
Group (CWG), gaw~ an update of his participation in this group to date. He believes that
the CWG is not doing anything tangible in the process so far and that they have not had an
opportunity to provide any feedback. He believes this will cause the members to lose
interest.

Mr. Ollendorff said that Clayton is meeting on a regular basis simply because they do not
yet know what position to take on the construction. Ex-Mayor Majerus and ex-
Councilmember Schuman conducted extensive MetroLink studies and public feedback
meetings on this issue four or five years ago. University City knows what we want.

Mr. Schoomer commented that the underground route was the only feasible choice.

Mr. Ollendorff said that the City will work to convince East West Gateway to add other
criteria, other than economic impact, to their decision criteria.

Mayor Pro Tem Wagner adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p.m.

Leisha K. Meine, Cit~'~'~erk J
