<br />Minutes of the CALOP Meeting <br />nd <br />University City City Hall, 2 Floor Conference Room <br />Thursday, September 27, 2007, 6:00 P.M. <br /> <br /> <br />The meeting convened at 6:06 p.m. in the Conference Room, Second Floor of City Hall. In <br />attendance were Ed Nickels, Eleanor Mullin, Marla Roach, Jim Kirchherr, Karol Walters, Mae <br />Etta Weston, Dennis Riggs, Bob Wilcox, Gladys Creer and Genise Lay. Also present were Tony <br />West and Dick Welsch. <br /> <br />Oral History Project Review <br />Tony West and Dick Welsch appeared before the commission to report on the status of the Oral <br />History Project. Mr. West reported that they had 40 tapes of footage. Mr. West also indicated <br />that the interviewees would like a DVD copy of their interview and suggested creating a DVD <br />and Mini DVD for future use. Discussion was held on storing the original tapes, the need for <br />archival and transcription services, and placement of a DVD and backup copies in the library. <br /> <br />Mr. Welsch reported that he and Mr. West would be submitting a grant proposal to take the Oral <br />History project to the next level. The proposal would focus on Jewish and African-American <br />migration to University City, how the city handled it, and integration of the schools. Mr. Welsch <br />indicated that transcription services would be needed to build the program. <br /> <br />Reading and Approval of Minutes <br />The commission reviewed the July 12, 2007 minutes. A motion to approve the minutes was <br />made by Mr. Riggs, seconded by Ms. Mullin, and approved. <br /> <br />Chairperson’s Report <br />Mr. Nickels asked that the commission review CALOP’s five-year plan to consider what CALOP <br />has been doing and where it is headed. <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels reported that the procedure for invoicing had been updated to send the first <br />installment immediately after execution of the grant contract. <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels pointed out that some contracts such as the Oral History, 15 Princeton, and William <br />Clark were exceptions to the standard CALOP contract. Mr. Nickels informed the commission <br />that Petree Eastman, Assistant to the City Manager, had reviewed and amended the standard <br />contract. <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels relayed that concerns of possible infringement involving Paul Guzzardo’s Digital City <br />Remix film had been sent to John Mulligan, the city’s attorney, for review. A letter will be sent to <br />Paul Guzzardo from the attorney requesting proof that he obtained approval to use copyrighted <br />material. If Mr. Guzzardo does not present documents showing consent, CALOP would send <br />final payment provided that CALOP’s name and logo be removed from the film. <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels reported that three interviews were held to choose a filmmaker for the #15 Princeton <br />project. Steve Behrends was selected and has already begun shooting footage of the <br />restoration. <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels noted that Reverend Tabscott (Elijah Lovejoy Parish Society project) was not able to <br />attend the meeting, but had submitted an informational packet for the commission.
