Mr. Riggs also informed the commission that Ms. Rivas previewed the film at a screening, <br />without CALOP's consent. <br /> <br />The commission discussed ways to improve the filmmaker's understanding of CALOP policies <br />and procedures. Mr. Friedman suggested an orientation for grantees be held. Also he <br />suggested an informational binder be developed to include and explain CALOP contracts and <br />policies for distribution to grantees. <br /> <br />The commission continued with liaison reports: <br /> <br />Johnnie Be Good. No report was available. Mr. Nickels suggested that the commission <br />contact filmmaker Art Holliday and ask that he give a presentation to the commission. <br /> <br />Sutter Meyer House. Mr. Nickels reported that Carol Diaz Granados, the project <br />coordinator, had given him a DVD of the film. <br /> <br />Elijah Parish Lovejoy Society. Mr. Nickels reported that filmmaker Robert Tabscott had <br />provided a copy of written materials, but the scope of the project had changed. Mr. Nickels <br />will ask that Mr. Tabscott meet with the commission. <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels reported that two projects were canceled by CALOP for failure to meet contract <br />obligations. Letters to Lisa Anne Harness (Searching for Dred Scott) and Ed Martin (A <br />Portrait of Edward Dowling) will be sent indicating such. <br /> <br />Grant Round Update <br />Mr. Nickels reported that letters explaining grant stipulations were sent to two successful <br />applicants: <br /> <br />U-City Sleuths: Uncovering the Stories a Hidden Community. Filmmaker Edie Barnard <br />was asked to reformat her project and provide a revised proposal in writing. <br /> <br />Trailblazers. Filmmaker Curtis Minor was asked by the commission to reformat his project <br />and provide a revised proposal in writing. <br /> <br />Five-Year Plan <br />The commission reviewed a draft of CALOP's five-year plan submitted by Mr. Nickels. <br />Discussion was held regarding application components. <br /> <br />Ms. Lay requested that a prescreening of the applications be performed before submission <br />to commission members. Mr. Friedman will work with Ms. Lay on developing a grant <br />application checklist. The commission also discussed requirements for in-kind contributions <br />and the feasibility of conducting two grant rounds. <br /> <br />During review of the five-year plan, Mr. Friedman asked Ms. Lay to contact three local <br />professors Kathy Corley, Edie Barnard, and Kathy Dunlop regarding the possibility of <br />assigning interns to CALOP. Mr. Friedman also reported that he had contacted Washington <br />University about providing archival services to CALOP. Mr. Friedman will also work to <br />arrange a tour of Washington University's archives. <br /> <br />Mr. Nickels asked that commission members send any corrections to the five-year plan to <br />him. <br /> <br />Education Committee Report <br />Mr. Friedman reported that a contract had been executed with Kathy Corley, coordinator for <br />the CALOP High School Education Program.
