<br /> <br />University Commission for Arts and Letters <br />January Monthly Meeting Minutes <br /> <br /> <br />Date of Meeting: January 10, 2005 <br />Attendees: Traci Moore-Clay <br /> Mary Schuman <br /> Calla Smorodin <br /> Kate Stein <br /> Jo Anne Zach <br /> Francine Brungardt (Council Liaison) <br /> Cheryl Thompson (Staff Liaison) <br /> <br />Excused: Jane Brownstone <br /> Diane Davenport <br />Harriet Lander <br />Jean Markus <br />Caryn St. Clair <br />Jo Seltzer <br />Phyllis Weber <br />BobWinters <br /> <br />Traci Moore-Clay called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. <br /> <br />The December minutes were approved as corrected. <br /> <br />The Treasurer’s Report was accepted on a motion duly made and seconded. <br /> <br />Council member’s report: Francine Brungardt gave an update on notable University City <br />events and matters before the council. The Olive Business Association has discussed <br />marketing of the Association with Grey Communications. Parks and recreations are also <br />planning PR; it will be actively promoting the new recreations center. The Economic <br />development Task Force will again be meeting Wednesday evening at the library. <br />Pedestrians face increasing danger in crossing Delmar because of rerouted traffic; the <br />council is reviewing options to improve pedestrian safety. A new ice cream parlor, the <br />Stone Cold Creamery, will soon be joining the new Ben & Jerry’s on Delmar. A council <br />subcommittee has been organized to discuss and manage the future transition of city <br />managers. Francine has begun writing short essays to explain and clarify her votes in <br />council chambers. In response to a question from Cheryl, Francine promised to request <br />the appointment of replacement members to the A&L Commission. University City <br />Residential Services will be hosting an event for neighborhood associations and <br />interested individuals. A Martin Luther King Day celebration will be held at the high <br />school on Sunday. <br /> <br /> <br />
