<br /> <br />University Commission for Arts and Letters <br />March Monthly Meeting Minutes <br /> <br /> <br />Date of Meeting: March 8, 2005 <br />Attendees: Robert Bernstein* <br /> Jane Brownstone <br />Jean Markus <br /> Traci Moore-Clay <br /> Jo Seltzer <br /> Calla Smorodin <br /> Kate Stein <br /> Jo Anne Zach <br /> Francine Brungardt (Council Liaison) <br /> Cheryl Thompson (Staff Liaison) <br /> <br />Excused: Diane Davenport <br />Phyllis Weber <br /> <br />*New Commissioner <br />**Leland Barber and Lisa Mandel have been appointed and are to be sworn in as new commissioners <br />before the next meeting. <br /> <br />Traci Moore-Clay called the meeting to order at 7:14 p.m. <br /> <br />The January minutes were approved as corrected. (Commissioners judged sculpture series presentations <br />in February, in lieu of the regular monthly meeting.) <br /> <br />Jean Markus gave the treasurer’s report, reviewing the current account and city funding of commission <br />programs. Additional deposits are expected shortly; these will help defray the cost of the returning artist <br />series and the sculpture series. The Treasurer’s Report was accepted on a motion duly made and <br />seconded. <br /> <br />Council member’s report: Francine Brungardt gave her report. Construction of the Recreation Center is <br />progressing. Many neighborhood associations and interested individuals convened at the January summit <br />held at All Saints. The next summit is scheduled for a Sunday in April. Individuals, as well as <br />association representatives, are invited to attend; additional information is contained in Cityscape. <br /> <br />Jean Markus, addressing Francine and the commission, reported calling the city with her concerns over <br />the apparent neglect of Mooney Park. Francine promised to look into the situation. Cheryl offered <br />assistance as well; she will convey the concerns to park maintenance personnel. <br /> <br />Francine continued her report by issuing an invitation to the commissioners, and any friends they can <br />recruit, to participate on the Centennial Committee, promising “fellowship and fun.” The next meeting of <br />the Centennial Committee will be held at the library on Thursday March 31 at 6 p.m. <br /> <br />Succession issues continue to be addressed. The council is also discussing citizens concerns about several <br />residential development projects that involve subdividing lots. <br /> <br /> <br />
