Concert Series: Leland Barber, who has been involved in selecting artists for this
summer’s concert series, gave an update. Leland, Robert Bernstein, and Cheryl
Thompson reviewed CDs submitted by artists and tried to select bands with universal
appeal. This season’s concerts will be sponsored by UPS, the Olive Business
Association, Midwest Pools, and Westport Pools. Lisa Mandel will be in charge of
securing prize donations. Bob Winters will design the posters.

Old Business: Calla Smorodin recapped the financials for this year’s returning artists
program. The program stayed under budget.

Visitor Barbara Romero addressed the commission. A group of “angels” plans organize
an art show for ’07 of works by mostly St. Louis artists. Participation would be by
invitation and works would be available for purchase.

The commission agrees that the logistical complexity of last year’s ArtSpeaks prevents
the commission from organizing it again this year. Jo Seltzer will apprise the Loop in
Motion organizers.

New Business: Tracy Moore-Clay raised the issue of insuring continuity in commission
activities despite the inevitable transitioning of commissioners on and off the
commission. Jane, Calla, Tracy, Cheryl, and Joann, with input from retired
commissioners Mary Schumann and Harriett Landers as necessary, will draft a
commission binder, to be provided to new commissioners. The binder will include
documents that define current activities and their timetables, the role of commissioners
and commission officers, the role of the city laison, and the procedures of the
commission.

A horse sculpture is to be displayed in Centennial Commons

After a motion duly made and seconded, the meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by the Secretary,

Kate Stein
