<br /> <br /> <br />University Commission for Arts and Letters <br />May Monthly Meeting Minutes <br /> <br /> <br />Date of Meeting: June 14, 2005 <br /> <br />Attendees: Jane Brownstone <br /> Leland Barber <br /> Robert Bernstein <br /> Calla Smorodin <br /> Kate Stein <br /> Cheryl Thompson (Staff Liaison) <br /> <br />Excused: Jean Markus <br /> Francine Brungardt (Council Liaison) <br /> Phyllis Weber <br /> Jo Anne Zach <br /> Lisa Mandel <br /> Traci Moore-Clay <br /> Jo Seltzer <br /> <br />Visitor: Mayor Joe Adams <br /> <br />In the absence of Traci Moore-Clay, Jane Brownstone called the meeting to order at 7:09 <br />p.m. <br /> <br />Before proceeding to a discussion of the evening’s agenda, Mayor Adams was invited to <br />address the commission on the subject of the Centennial Celebration Committee (CCC, <br />hereafter). He does so, offering highlights of the CCC’s progress thus far. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams reports that the president of the Historical Preservation Commission has <br />offered his assistance to A&L; he would be happy to write copy for the centennial <br />calendar. The CCC is considering a “lion project,” which would involve decoration and <br />citywide display of lions, to be judged by A&L and auctioned off. In recent years, <br />Chicago displayed cows and Los Angeles angels. The CCC is in the process of <br />budgeting and will soon proceed to fund-raising. The CCC has suggested a special <br />centennial category be added to next year’s photo competition and show. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams further requests that a member of the Arts & Letters Commission be <br />designated to attend all future meetings of the CCC. Jane volunteers and is so <br />designated. All are welcome to attend. <br /> <br />The Mayor is thanked for attending the meeting. <br /> <br />The May minutes were accepted as amended. <br /> <br />
