Calendar:
Western Press was recommended as the printer for the calendar. The recommendation has been

sent to the council for action.Traci thanked Francine for making sure that Arts & Letters was consulted
before a printer was awarded to print the calendar.

Traci Moore Clay proposed that Jay Fram’s U. City photos be exhibited for a month at the Companiere
during the spring of 2006. Arts and Letters would pay for food and drink. Photos would be for sale. The
gallery would handle the sales. There was a discussion about the sale of photos. Jane Brownstone moved
and Barbara Santoro seconded that the Commission go ahead with the proposal.

Phyllis Weber made a point that the City attorney should take an active role in setting out terms of contracts
in advance with all persons we engage; for example, Jay Fram, persons related to the sculpture series, etc.

Old Business:
Snail Scott, funded last year by Arts & Letters’ sculpture series, was featured in Washington
University’s Mentor Artist Program in a booth at the Clayton Art Fair.

Jean Markus has had two surgeries for cancer. Jane Brownstone will send flowers on behalf of the
Commission.

New Business:
Traci reported that Ron Leax , of Washington University wants to proceed on compiling a
book on the 20 year history of our sculpture series with Washington University’s Art Department.
Washington University will fund the project for about $5,000; they would like about $2,500 to $3,000 from
us. Monica McFee said the Centennial Commission may be interested in taking this on. She will try to get
funding and communicate with Ron Leax.

Traci reported that former Returning Artist Jeremy Davenport and other U. City alumni (Laura Davenport,
Peter Martin, Neale Cain) have all made it out of their homes in New Orleans and are physically safe and
dry.

Francine reported that State Representative Maria Chappelle-Nadal has a network to help New Orleans
refugees. Francine will send out an e-mail to the Commissioners.

Photo Viewing:
Jay Fram presented his photos to the group. Each Commissioner was asked to select 16
photos by Monday, September 19 and e-mail them to Traci. This represents one for each month of the year,
two additional options, a cover and a back-up cover. Former Commissioners were told to select a favorite.
It will be framed and presented to each Commissioner as a gift of appreciation for their service to the
Commission.

After a motion duly made and seconded, the meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Calla Smorodin
