They discussed the community at large and what issues <br />the community are facing at the time and how they impact public art. They explained the <br />process of how the students will present their ideas and budget for the Sculpture Series in <br />th <br />February. The focus of the Sculpture Series 2006 is the 20 anniversary of the <br />collaboration with Wash U. <br /> <br />Presentation by Student Artist: <br /> “A Dancing Celebration” was presented by Anne <br />Hirsch. She has asked the commission to think about participating in a .5 mile “dance” <br />through University City during the opening ceremony for the Sculpture Series. She has to <br />get a parade permit early if there is a large number of participants and she is making sure <br />that there is interest before she acquires one. The Commission will vote at the end of the <br />meeting to see how many people are interested in participating. <br /> <br />Talk by Ron Leax about : <br />Ron shared his 20 year experience with this collaborative that <br />provides students with skills that prepare them for life events post graduation. He will <br />speak at the Sculpture Series opening about this program. He explained that they are <br />working on a book to be published about the Sculpture Series. He asked University City <br />to donate money because they are a large part of the project. The cost of the project is <br />$20,000. He is requesting essays from University City Parks and Recreation Staff and the <br />Mayor. They are printing 500 copies. The mayor is reported to be in charge of fund <br />raising for the Centennial events through public and private funds. Copies of the book <br /> <br />
