<br />University City Commission on Arts and Letters <br />Minutes <br />January 10, 2006 <br /> <br />Attendees: <br /> Calla Smorodin <br /> Jane Brownstone <br /> Lisa Mandel <br /> Emily Kelly <br /> Barbara Santoro <br /> Leland Barber <br /> Robert Bernstein <br /> Traci Moore-Clay <br /> Phyllis Weber <br /> Joanne Zach <br /> <br />Staff Liaison: <br /> Cheryl Thompson <br /> <br />City Council Liaison: <br />Francine Brungardt <br /> <br />Calla Smorodin, president, called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes: <br /> Unavailable <br /> <br />Treasurers Report: <br />Approved. <br /> <br />City Council Report <br />: Land on Millbrook, in Ames Place, is having ownership issues. <br />They are fighting over who gets to sell the land, Ames Place vs. University City. There <br />used to be street car tracks that ran through this space. It is being worked out between the <br />two groups. <br /> <br />The city is still working on hiring a city manager. It is a national search and they are <br />th <br />waiting for more resumes. Frank will retire by July 15 and the council is hoping to make <br />the transition during the summer. They would like the new hire to be decided by March <br />with the current city council in place. <br /> <br />Returning Artist: <br /> Calla Smorodin and Leland Barber met with the school district. The <br />final changes have been made to the schedule. Volunteers will be needed to help at the <br />high school. The volunteers will need to introduce Tony West. Carol Ann Cole is sending <br />out the newsletter. Tracy is finishing the post cards and posters. The post cards will be <br />rd <br />sent out January 23. There may some media coverage. <br /> <br />Sculpture Series: <br /> Lisa Mandel and Robert Bernstein give a report. The students will <br />stst <br />present their ideas before the commission on January 31 and February 1. The <br />commission will examine each students ideas and presentation and will deliberate on who <br />will be chosen for the 2006 Sculpture Series. The commission will provide food for the <br />students and members. <br /> <br />
