<br />UNIVERSITY CITY MUNICIPAL COMMISSION <br />ON ARTS & LETTERS <br />March 14, 2006 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Vice President Jane Brownstone at 7:09p.m. <br /> <br />Members Present: Jane Brownstone, Lisa Mandel, Barbara Santoro, Leland Barber, Robert <br />Bernstein, Adelia Parker- Castro, Phyllis Weber, Joanne Zach. <br /> <br />Other Present: Francine Brungardt, Council Liaison, Cheryl Thompson, Staff Liaison. <br /> <br />Excused: Emily Kelly, Calla Smorodin, Traci Moore-Clay <br /> <br />January minutes will be approved next month. <br /> <br />Treasurer’s report with income and expense statement was presented by Lisa Mandel, Treasurer. <br /> <br />Francine Brungardt, City Council Liaison, reported that: <br /> <br /> <br />1.The search for new City Manager continues with a meeting on next Thursday afternoon to <br />negotiate the contract, a unanimous decision was reached by the City Council, and everyone <br />will be pleased. <br /> <br />2.A new In-fill review Board was developed. It will consist of a body of citizens/liaison <br />between developers and citizens to oversee instances where neighborhood’s concerns will be <br />mediated. <br /> <br />3.City hall project not completed yet – the stairs in front and the elevators are being worked <br />on. <br /> <br />4.The film “First Century” – produced by CALOP Grant recipients is being shown on the Higher <br />Education Channel Thursday evenings. It is a documentary of University City History. <br /> <br />5.The city is now beginning to ask University Citizens to vote on increasing sales taxes .25% <br />over the course of a year to be earmarked for economic development. There is a need to <br />organize and popularize a body of citizens to generate income the city hopes to receive by this <br />increase in sales tax ( walk level lights is one possible use of the funds, and is one of the <br />questions this body of residents will answer). Anyone interested in this issue can contact any <br />member of the city council. <br /> <br />Cheryl Thompson reported that the sculpture series invitations will need to be reprinted, due to the <br />change of venue for the reception. 2000 have been made, we mail out around 200 and <br />Washington University mails out the others. The reception will be moved from City Hall to <br />Centennial Commons. The exhibition opens April 9 – May 5. Commission members were asked <br />to bring food for reception. Cheryl will e-mail press releases to Commission members. <br /> <br />The Photo Exhibition will open April 8 at the University City Library with Awards presentation <br />and reception. The judges are Susan Stang, Jay Fram, and Robin Assner. Volunteers are needed <br />for Photo intake, installation and the awards reception. A list for volunteers was passed around. <br /> <br /> <br />
