06/07 Budget: Cheryl Thompson shared the budget information with the Commission. The Arts & Letters budget is part of the Parks and Recreation budget. The last 2 or 3 years, Arts & Letters has broken down the budget into sections. We asked for an increase in February. Our programs include Sculpture Series, Returning Artist, Photo show, Loop in Motion, and the Concerts. The commission has to figure out how each program is broken down financially. We need to cut our budget because of other areas of the city needing money. Cheryl asks that each program leader try to condense the budget as much as possible for that particular program. Returning Artist: David Harris needs us to give him new dates. He would be interested in January 2007. Old Business: Joanne Zach will be our new Vice President. Barb Romero, an old commissioner, had a fire in her house recently. The commission bought her some gift certificates to help until her house is back in order. The commission is interested in buying “Brick Hands” from the Washington University student who installed her sculpture on the Community Center in 2005. The city manager would like Arts & Letters to purchase it. It will cost about $2000. Jane Brownstone gave thanks to everyone for the photo show. Some pictures needed to be picked up by the artists. There was some confusion at the Bank where the finalists had their art displayed. The brochure will be changed for next year to reflect that photos “may” be hung instead of “will” be hung. There were some complaints about the Calendar print being too small and very hard to read. One letter in particular came from Richard Webster. New Business: There is a new exhibit at the Botanical Gardens by Chihuly. Cheryl Thompson will be out of the office for a week.
