Concerts:
Velvet spoke with Cheryl Thompson and mentioned that they would be
willing to play rain dates without being paid for a second booking. Currently the
commission pays the bands half of the amount promised if there is a rain-out and the
entire amount if the concert is cancelled after the band has set up. We would like to
eliminate this by making sure that the citizens get to see the bands play even if some
concerts are cancelled. It has also been brought up that it would be beneficial to start the
concerts in June in order to have enough time in the calendar for rain dates and so that
there is more sunlight during the concerts. Leland Barber would like raffle tickets that
tear easier. The commission would like to include new food vendors for the 2007 Concert
Series. We would like for new vendors to rotate at each concert to encourage more
citizens to attend the concerts. This would bring a new group of citizens to the concerts.
Lisa Mandel made a motion for the concerts to start earlier in the summer, build in rain
dates, and to include new food vendors. Barbara Santoro seconded that motion. Everyone
was in favor for Cheryl Thompson will draft a request that the Commission would like to
th
start the concerts by the third week in June, not have a concert the week of July 4, and
schedule rain dates in August. This must be done quickly so that the dates can be printed
on the annual calendar.

Returning Artist:
David Harris, c/o 1974 is planning on coming to UCHS in March.
The current dates are March 21-23, 2007. Harris is a teacher, composer, and performer at
the Massachusetts Conservatory in Boston. He plans on performing at UCHS with his
brother and friends that live in St. Louis. His brother currently plays in the loop summer
concerts. Harris is planning on teaching students how to use the new Mac G5 computer
lab in order to compose music. The budget for Harris’ visit is based on estimates for
travel and accommodations. There might be some money left over and the budget might
need to be amended because of City funds towards this project. The commission might
need to send out donation letters or take money out of our budget for this project.

Calendar:
There were many complaints about the 2006 Calendar. Most were concerned
about the size of the font used and the orientation of the numbers on each day. The
commission would like to proof-read the calendar before it goes to print for 2007.

Art Donation:
Cheryl Thompson informed the Commission that the Library has declined
to take the donation of artwork done by David Friedman. They did not feel that they had
sufficient space to devote to this project. Stefany Brot informed the Commission that the
Suttermeyer House might be turned into a History House for the community. There might
be a gallery devoted to artifacts. The artwork by Mr. Friedman might be able to be hung
here. The Green Center is another option for a place to display this artwork. The
Commission has decided that they do not have enough information about what kind of
art, how many pieces, and what condition the art is in is being donated. The Commission
has decided to ask for more details before deciding whether or not to accept this donation
of artwork.
