Calla stated that the commission needs to discuss the calendar for 2008 because there will not be photo show and photos are usually chosen from the show each year to produce the calendar. Robert mentioned a discussion he had with Monica McFee (a U. City employee) regarding using artwork from local children for the calendar. Barbara asked if the calendar has to be the same thing every year and would like to see the photo show separated from the calendar. Starlight Concert Series Lisa M. said we could promote some of the local businesses (especially prize donors) to the crowd during the announcements. Robert, Lisa M. and Tom have all spoken to the local Ben & Jerry’s about selling ice cream during the concerts. Lisa spoke to the Max Bierman (owner of the B & J’s in the Loop) and he said that their cart is currently being used for the Shakespeare festival. It was discussed that it would be easier to sell ice cream novelties rather than cones. Clair is going to look into contacting a vendor she has worked with in the past to donate items. Lisa M. noted that Ben & Jerry’s would be more expensive per item than something like Good Humor. Old Business The Commission received a thank you card form former City employee and A & L Liaison Cheryl Thompson with appreciation for the gift she received in honor of her service to the Commission. New Business Tom said he was shown an article from a local paper about a company that can show movies in the park. He suggested that movies could be shown on the back of the Centennial Commons building in Heman Park. Also, a suggestion was made that a movie could be shown on a screen placed on stage after a Monday night concert. Calla recommended that movies should not be shown after the school year starts. Barbara suggested that popcorn could be sold. Claire recommended that a movie could be tried on a Friday as a family event and that the Monday night suggested time is too late. Tom also suggested that you could sell ad time and show slides of the ads before the movie. Stefany will be nominating someone to replace Sarah Umlauf, a Commission member who had to resign due to time constraints. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 8:43 PM.
