Council Member’s Report
In the absence of our Council Member Liaison, Stefany Brot, a report was not
presented to the Commission.

Committee Reports

Sculpture Show
Robert Bernstein gave his report on the Sculpture Show. Everything was moving
along quite well. Robert presented the concerns of the Commission to Ron and
the students.
In the case of Mound City, the issues of visibility and safety were addressed. In
order to move the location of the exhibit the cost of the project would increase
greatly as the site originally chosen is located near the materials to be used in
the sculpture. In order to increase visibility, it was proposed to play a video of the
sculpture at Centennial Commons and/or display the model of the work and a
map of its location at Centennial Commons. It was suggested that the same
could be done for other works as well in order to increase their visibility and
impact. In regards to safety, Ron assured Robert that he would be present for
each installation and that he would inspect the site himself for any problems.

For the installation on Verbal Abuse, the student is looking into relocating her
work to the median on Midland. This strip of land belongs to St. Louis County
and she was seeking permission from the county to install her work on the site. It
was suggested that the student contact Barb Fraser in order to help gain County
approval.

The Public/Private installation will include a sign provided by the Commission
titling the performance. The student reported that during the performance, he will
also be engaging the public and letting them know his purpose.

st
The awards reception will be held on Sunday, April 1, instead of the Sunday
following the Photo Show event. This is due to Easter falling on Sunday, April
th
8. The Sculpture Show awards reception will be at 2:30 PM in Centennial
Commons. The commission will be responsible for providing desserts. The
reception will include a presentation by Robert then Ron will speak followed by
the students. The models of the works will be on display and all the works will be
installed by that date.

Tom announced that the Commission would be receiving $500 from a student
who participated in the show last year. Part of his project included returning the
$500 worth of pennies used in his sculpture. Tom also announced that Annie
Losher, who was chosen to install her flower tiles in Jackson Park with the help
of young students, was forced to withdraw her participation due to her removal
from Washington University for personal reasons.
