in gas prices has affected the city. In fact, U. City will be phasing out their senior
shuttle service and would instead be looking for volunteer drivers to help take
seniors to their appointments. Volunteer drivers would be compensated for gas.
Expenses for the city, such as pensions, continue to rise. Stefany noted that the
city only receives 12% of our property taxes and that they are only allowed to
increase for inflation. So while taxes and revenue for the city has remained the
same, expenses have increased.

Treasurer’s Report
Calla and Lisa have not had a chance to meet to settle the finances for the
Returning Artist Series, but they will be sure to attend to this.
Lisa provided a handout. The $500 income under the Sculpture Show reflects
the return of the pennies from a 2006 student project. That matter is now settled.

Committee Reports:

Sculpture Show
The sculpture signs have been taken down and everything should have been
removed by this point. There have been no requests to keep any of the
sculptures as permanent exhibits. All the sculptures held up well and even
weathered the bad storms. But, Mound City looked a little rough near the end
with some of its skeletal structure exposed. Robert pointed out that the big news
was the return of the $500 worth of pennies.
Tom noted that he received a call from the director of the Regional Arts
Commission inquiring after the Verbal Abuse signs. She loved the installation,
felt it was very moving, and told others about the work.
Stefany talked with the University City Chief of Police about the communication
errors during the installation of the Sculpture Show. Everyone agrees that we
should be in more close communication with the police and especially the chief
next year. Lisa asked if Ron was happy with the show. Robert did not get the
chance to speak with Ron. Adelia stated that he felt communication could be
improved. Tom also pointed out that Ron showed a desire to host the reception
event at City Hall again. Tom told Ron that it was unlikely seeing as Centennial
Commons serves as the home for the Arts and Letters Commission.
Additionally, parking conditions at Centennial Commons is more favorable.

Returning Artist
Calla received suggestions for next year’s Returning Artist. Some suggested
asking a Dancer to return. Call prefers to rotate each year between a performing
artist and a visual artist and since we just had a performing artist, Calla is likely to
select a visual artist. The artist that is being strongly considered is Raymond
Thomas, a 1984 graduate. Mr. Thomas is a painter and the Creative Art Director
for Ebony and Jet magazine. In addition, Mr. Thomas is also a filmmaker. He
has shown interest in being the Returning Artist for 2008 and would like to make
a film about the experience. His availability fits perfectly within our schedule.
