Tom suggested that instead of 8 concerts, we hold 4 in order to increase the
quality of those events. Lisa M. felt there was a problem with this as the
community has come to rely on this event for a nice evening out once a week.
Tom still felt that we might be spreading ourselves too thin and sacrificing on the
quality of the events.
An all day event or festival such as a “Taste of University City” was suggested.
Returning to the notion of cutting the series down to four events, it was explained
that a lot of people depend on this entertainment. Lisa M. felt that we have an
obligation to provide good, free entertainment to our community.
Julie suggested we try to host one big event while keeping the others. Robert
noted that this could serve as the culmination of the Starlight Concert Series.
Creda asked if there was a calendar that printed metro events in advance so that
we could check out our competition. Tom would get this information for Creda.
Robert again discussed this one-day event and pointed out that this could be the
multi-medium event discussed earlier.
Calla suggested that the new Starlight committee has a great starting off point for
future discussions.
Julie asked for guidance as to our responsibilities for the upcoming Starlight
Concert series. Tom would e-mail the commission for volunteer signups,
requesting that each member sign up for 3 concerts. Each commission member
is also expected to bring in 2 raffle items valued at roughly $25 a piece.
Tome noted that press release information on the concert series would be going
out soon.
Tom announced that the group that handled concessions last year would not be
doing concessions again this year. Tom felt that we could open up the
concessions to fundraising/high school groups. Calla noted that the commission
had never made very much money at concessions, even when selling beer.
Lisa M. will talk to Ben and Jerry’s about bringing their cart to the event. Tom
asked if we should require a donation from the concession groups. The
commission agreed that we would not seek a donation from groups handling
concessions.
Barbara noted that the first concert of the series would take place before our next
th
meeting. The concert will be on Monday, June 11. Volunteers should arrive by
7:15 PM.

Old Business
There was no Old Business to discuss.

New Business
There was no New Business to discuss.

Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:41 PM.

Our next meeting will be held at Centennial Commons on June 12, 2007.
