Bianchi Barbara Santoro <br />Marilyn Cathcart Calla Smorodin <br />Lisa Greening Jennifer Stokes <br />Claire Hyman Daniel Talonn <br />Excused: Lisa Mandel <br /> Creda Stewart <br />Staff Liaison: Tom McCarthy <br />City Council Liaison: Stefany Brot <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:03 at Centennial Commons by Calla Smorodin. <br /> <br />Calla passed around thank-you notes from Joanne Zach and Leland Barber for restaurant <br />gift certificates in appreciation of their service on the Commission. <br /> <br />Introductions <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Julie Bianchi moved approval of the June minutes with corrections, Lisa Greening <br />seconded, the motion passed. <br /> <br />Treasurer’s Report <br />No report was given. Tom reported that $791.00 was realized from the sale of raffle <br />tickets at Starlight Concerts this summer. He will compare this figure with the two <br />preceding summers’ sales. <br /> <br />Council Liaison Report <br />Stefany Brot referred to her June budget update. There will be a small increase in tax rate <br />to adequately fund the police/fire retirement funds. <br />The council held a retreat at which city goals were determined: <br /> <br />1)Commercial development—the I-170/Olive area <br /> <br />2)Housing and Development—strengthen neighborhoods and encourage growth <br /> <br />3)Financial stability—long-term vitality with “pay as you go” philosophy <br /> <br />4)Central operations—streamline and strengthen <br />Stefany announced the upcoming Open House at the Sutter-Meyer Farmhouse, the oldest <br />house in University City. The goal of the Sutter-Meyer Society is to turn the house into <br />an interactive museum. <br /> <br />Committee Reports: <br /> <br />Returning Artist <br />Calla reported that Raymond Thomas, a visual artist living in Chicago and Creative Art <br />Director for Ebony magazine, is scheduled to visit on March 5, 6, 7, 2008.
