<br />ARTS AND LETTERS COMMISSION MINUTES -- June 10, 2008 <br /> <br />MEETING CALLED TO ORDER <br /> at 7:08p.m. By Calla Smorodin, President. As she <br />requested, each member introduced himself or herself. Those present as follows: <br /> <br />Lisa Greening <br />Jennifer Stokes <br />Leslie Kutz <br />Tom McCarthy <br />Kim Chilton <br />Claire Hyman <br />Calla Smorodin <br />Adelia Parker-Castro <br />Julie Bianchi <br />Barbara Santoro <br /> <br />nd <br />MINUTES – <br />April minutes reviewed, Julie moved, Lisa 2 motion, approved. <br />May minutes reviewed (Lisa clarified $25 donation from Business <br />nd <br />purchase), Julie moved, Barbara 2, motion approved <br /> <br />TREASURER’S REPORT <br /> – Lisa Greening <br />Passed out report. Reviewed, and accepted <br /> <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS <br />: Calla Smorodin reports that, Julie Bianchi will remain <br />chairperson of the Sculpture committee, and beginning in the fall of the 2008-2009 <br />school year. Adelia Parker-Castro will be stepping into the chair of the Returning Artist <br />Committee. Tom McCarthy suggest that co-chairs are good ideas and that the sculpture, <br />Rhythm Section, will cost $2, 785. <br /> <br /> Sculpture – <br />Julie Bianchi, chairperson <br />Tom McCarthy suggests that co-chairs for this committee is a good idea. Tom <br />also reports that $2, 785 will be spent for purchase of Rhythm Section sculptor. <br />Julie reports that Rhythm Section has been installed at the Community Commons <br />and is “looking good”, installed against the building. Tom is looking into <br />“sample” contract to offer the student for purchase of the permanent sculpture. <br />The instillation will cast $1,000 above the available funds. Lisa motioned to pay <br />the balance out the funds from our unspent Arts and Letters Commission budget <br />nd <br />for 2007-2008. Motion 2 by Julie and approved. <br /> <br />Returning Artist <br /> - Calla Smorodin chairperson. <br />Mr. Poiter at University City High School is excited about the program, and we <br />will need to contact Mr. Chris Blumenhorst, the new principal for the 2008-2009 <br />school year. He was vice principal and has been in the district for 22 years. They <br />welcome the Arts and Letters Commission with open arms. Daphne Dorsey is <br />press person for University City School District and will help with publicity.
