<br />ARTS AND LETTERS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES <br />SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 <br /> <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by Calla Smorodin, President. <br /> <br />Those following Commissioners were Commissioners Absent: <br />present: <br />Calla Smorodin Evelyn Hollowell <br />Shirley LeFlore Barbara Santoro <br />Adelia Parker-Castro Claire Medol Hyman <br />Jennifer Stokes Julie Bianchi <br />Kim Chilton <br />Lisa Greening <br />Daniel Talonn <br />Marilyn Cathcart <br />Dan Martin <br />Regina Raineri <br /> <br />Other attendees were: <br />Tom McCarthy, Liaison, City <br />Terry Crow Liaison, City Council <br /> <br />Minutes <br /> <br />The minutes for the meeting of June 10, 2008 were approved. <br />Lisa Greening moved to approve; Adelia Parker-Castro seconded the motion. <br /> <br />The minutes for the meeting of July 8, 2008 were approved. Lisa Greening moved to approve; Jennifer Stokes <br />seconded the motion. <br /> <br />Treasurer’s Report <br />Lisa Greening distributed financial statements for fiscal year ending 2008 and the new fiscal year of 2009. <br /> <br /> <br />Council Member’s report – Terry Crow <br />Terry Crow suggested that we select members of the Commission to inform the City of the A&L’s contribution. <br />The safety of the Loop was discussed, including the financial impact of having 15 additional police officers on <br />staff on Friday and Saturday nights. Washington University is willing to assist by enforcing curfews. <br />U City High School teacher, Margaret Williams, has recently been named “Missouri Teacher of the Year”. <br />U City recently was named in the Top 10 Jewish Neighborhoods in America by Jewish Living magazine. <br />The City is in discussions with Washington University regarding payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT), <br />Community engagement project has been very successful. <br />The single stream recycling project is underway; some areas are performing well while others are failing. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE REPORT <br />Movies in the Park series – Chairperson, Jennifer Stokes <br />Jennifer Stokes reported that Front Yard Features was the lowest bidder for 2008 and did a good job, although <br />we had a generator problem during Singing in the Rain. The Commission agreed to bid out again in 2009. We <br />will probably show Jaws again. <br /> <br />Returning Artist – Chairperson, Adelia Parker-Castro <br /> <br />
