September 16, 1992, Board of Adjustment Meeting Minutes Page 2
(Continued)
CASE #2340 - SIGN HEIGHT APPEAL, TOTAL SQAURE FOOTAGE OF PRIMARY
SIGNAGE APPEAL, SIGN HEIGHT VARIANCE, TOTAL SQAURE FOOTAGE OF
PRIMARY SIGNAGE VARIANCE, AND SECONDARY/INCIDENTAL SIGN SQUARE
FOOTAGE VARIANCE AT 7361 FORSYTH, KENNETH RYAN REPRESENTED BY
JAMES A. FREDERICKS
Mr. Fredericks requested, on behalf of Mr. Ryan:
1) A reversal of the Zoning Administrator's decision that Firestone structurally altered an existing
free-standing sign and therefore must comply with the ten foot height limitation for that sign at 7361
Forsyth. The Zoning Administrator's decision was affirmed by a vote of 4 - 1.
2) A reversal of the Zoning Administrator's decision that the Famous & Barr parking lot is not a
"public parking lot" and therefore only the Forsyth frontage may be considered in calculating
allowable square footage of signs at 7361 Forsyth. The Zoning Administrator's decision was
reversed by a vote of 5 - 0.
3) A variance of §34-102.2(a) of the University City Zoning Code in order to keep/erect a
freestanding sign 30 feet in height that exceeds the 10 foot height limitation at 7361 Forsyth. The
variance was denied by a vote of 1 - 4.
4) A variance of §34-102.2 of the University City Zoning Code to allow 82.10 total square feet of
primary signage in excess of the 40 square foot limit at 7361 Forsyth. The Board did not vote on that
request because the reversal of the Zoning Administrator's decision concerning the public parking
lot made it unnecessary to grant said variance.
5) A variance of §34-102.3 of the University City Zoning Code to erect/keep a 24.17 square foot
incidental secondary sign in excess of the 8 square foot incidental sign size limit at 7361 Forsyth.
The variance was denied by a vote of 1 - 4.
