Architect: Other designs were presented. This was the design they
decided on based on public input and input from the school board.

- From what street do most drivers see the school? What street has the
most traffic? What side of the school has the most visibility?

General response: Jackson and Balson are the streets most people
see the school from. Although Hanley has higher traffic volume, the
school is setback far enough that most drivers either don’t see the
school, or are simply not looking in the direction of the school due to
higher speed and traffic.

- Regarding the windows in the front of the addition (facing west), is this
the final design? Or, are there still options for the appearance of this
side of the building?

Architect: There is still room for discussion regarding final appearance
of the face of the addition. They would be willing to discuss this further
and answer any questions the Commission members might have.

- What is the process from this point forward?

Staff: Approval of the Site Plan would allow the applicant to move
forward with Site Plan submittal to the City Council. The next available
Council meeting is Monday, July 26. A recommendation of approval
would simply be for the Site Plan only. In other words, it would be
approving the use and the layout. When it is time for building permit
submittal, it will also have to come before the Historic Preservation
Commission for approval, at which time any specific building items
such as materials and colors will be reviewed.

The Commission members unanimously agreed that they would like to
have the architect on the next available meeting agenda (July 15) to
discuss more details about the materials, color, appearance, aesthetics,
and other information pertaining to design prior to any submittal for the
building permit. The architect stated they will come before the
Commission at the next available meeting to discuss such items.

A motion was made by Ms. Davison to recommend approval of the Site
Plan for Jackson Park Elementary School. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Myers. The motion was passed by voice vote.

4. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
Historic Preservation Commission Minutes – June 17, 2010
Q:\WPOFFICE\Historic Preservation Commission\Minutes
