University City Library board meeting minutes, 1/10/2007

6. President’s report

None.

7. Committee reports

Ed Hansell reviewed the suggestions of the building and grounds committee’s walk-through
conducted on January 9, 2007. Nine items and concerns were noted. Ed suggested that this year
the library should give priority to (a) replacing the automatic doors, (b) fixing the broken restroom
tiles on the first floor and the settlement patching as well as reseting the commode in the Gallery
area men’s room, (c) replacing lighting in two small meeting rooms (and perhaps adding track
lighting above the new books stacks by the stairway), (d) replacing the walkways from the parking
lot and from the Delmar sidewalk, (e) paint the exterior ironwork, (f) repair, reseal, re-stripe the
driveway.

Two items of concern because of the expected high expense are: the roof, which should be
inspected in spring 2007, and the building air handlers. It was suggested that the long range
planning committee look at having money in the library budget that is set aside to build up a
reserve targeted at these two items.

A motion was made to have an action for approval on next month’s meeting agenda that would
raise the $1000 limit at which bids are necessary for purchase for services and materials. It is felt
that the current limit is too low and unnecessarily burdensome. A higher limit of $2000 - $3000
was suggested.

8. Old business

Linda loaned Larry Nolan her copy of the 2006 actuarial valuation for the non-uniformed
employees retirement plan (the library employees are part of this plan) to see if the report answers
the questions that the library board asked in October 2006.

9. New business

February 6 is the annual legislative day in Jefferson City; board members are invited to attend to
meet with our local representatives in state government.

10. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 5:55p.m. on 1/10/2007.

Larry Nolan – Board secretary
Page 2 of of 2
