Director, library staff
The meeting of the University City Public Library board was called to order at 5:21p.m.,
1 / 14/2009 by David Stokes, President.
Minutes
The minutes from the meeting of December 10, 2008 were approved.
Correspondence
None.
Friends' report
Don Marsh will speak on Monday, February 2 at 7p.m. The speaker at the annual meeting in
March will be Harper Barnes. The Friends are planning a membership drive to be held in the
Library on February 15.
Council liaison
Councilman Price was not present.
Librarian's report
a. Linda and Christa from the library staff are planning to attend the Missouri Library
Association annual legislative day in Jefferson City. It was noted that because of term limits on several representatives, after the next election we can expect new
representatives who may need more discussions with library staff and board than the
current office holders.
b. The library is working on a grant from ICMA (professional and educational organization
for city managers) for funds to hire a Community Resource Specialist. Who would work with the police department's victim services office and with the school district and other
departments to aid citizens in need of assistance with a variety of social problems.
c. It is notable that in December 2008, once again the monthly circulation increased, it was
up 7% for 2007-2008.
d. Linda is waiting for a re-bid from Midwest Marble to have comparable bid (vs.
Monumental Finisher) for the board's consideration. There was some discussion whether the library needs to replace any of the benches.
e. Bond-Wolfe provided some rough budgetary estimates for the work for which they are
preparing a detailed proposal. Linda used the estimates to submit a project list to the
Missouri state Librarian which will be forwarded to the American Library Assoc. They
will be providing consolidated cost numbers to the Federal government to indicate the needs of public libraries for infrastructure investment.
f. Linda has not received an up-to-date income report for the library from University City.
