Director <br />The meeting of the University City Public Library board was called to order at 5:18p.m., <br />8/19/2009 by David Stokes, President. <br />Minutes <br />The minutes from the meeting of June 24, 2009 were approved. <br />Correspondence <br />The Red Cross sent a letter thanking the Library for hosting a successful blood donation event. <br />Friends' report <br />No Friend's meeting until September. <br />Council liaison <br />Not present. <br />Librarian's report a. Fundraising to enable the Library to bid on the arty lion currently in front of the Library <br />is proceeding with donations from the public and an anonymous donor. <br />b. Based upon information provided by the city's finance director, the preliminary new tax <br />rates for the Library that were approved in May will have to increase by less than an <br />additional $0.01 for Residential and slightly more than $0.01 additional for Commercial <br />property to keep our revenue level. The board agreed that this is acceptable. c. On August 28 at 1:30pm, Opinion Research Specialist will review the results of the <br />telephone survey with Library staff and the board. <br />d. The board met Annie Fuller, the new full-time Reference librarian. <br />President's report None. <br />Committee reports <br />None. <br />Old business Bond -Wolfe architects reviewed and answered questions about the low bid (from Lawlor Corp.) <br />for replacing the Library' roof and skylight. Because of information from the supplier of the <br />skylight material the skylight design will have to be slightly modified but will remain functionally <br />the same. <br />Patrick Lawlor of Lawlor Corp. was also present and answered questions and described work done <br />in the vicinity for Washington University, Commerce Bank, Metro, Crossroads School. <br />He said that he would be able to have a schedule in a couple of weeks and that the skylight <br />manufacture and delivery would be the longest lead item. He thought that work might begin in <br />late September and take 60-90 days to complete. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
