<br /> <br />Regular Meeting of the Park Commission <br />City of University City <br />September 23, 2008 <br />Centennial Commons <br /> <br />President Livingston Sykes called the meeting to order at 6:30p.m. Others present were: <br /> <br />Karen Dille Nancy MacCartney, Director of Parks <br />Jerry Fitch Rivian Robinson, Department Staff Liaison <br />Caryn St Clair Tom McCarthy, Asst. Rec. Superintendent <br />James Sutton <br />Karen Palmer <br /> <br />Excused Absent: <br /> Linda Peoples, Mary Hart, John Sterbenz <br /> <br /> <br />Disposition of Minutes from July 22, 2008 <br />President Sykes called for a motion, after corrections noted Jerry Fitch motion to approve and Karen Dille <br />second, after a vote unanimously accepted <br /> <br />Citizen’s Comments on items not on Agenda <br />None. <br /> <br />Council Liaison Report <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner not in attendance <br /> <br />2008 Heman Pool Report <br />Ms. MacCartney gave a verbal overview of the report. Tom McCarthy will be preparing a report <br />regarding lifeguarding problems. There is a new law titled “Pool Entrapment” addressing people who <br />may get trapped by suction in pool. Solution may be installing new grates in deep end of pool. Suction <br />pressure needs to be determined to see if we meet regulations. Kim Loomis was called and given all <br />information as it applies to the Natatorium. Caryn St. Clair made a motion to accept the report, seconded <br />by Karen Palmer, unanimously approved. <br /> <br />Department Report <br />Ms. MacCartney reported on: <br /> <br /> <br />Master plan - Information packet was given to all present for review. The last chapter on major <br />recommendations is not to be written until scoring is done. This was also mailed to absent <br />members. Comments/Corrections are to be discussed at the next meeting or members can get <br />back to Nancy with their comments. <br />th <br /> <br />Golf driving range - Driving Range to have soft opening Wed. Oct. 8, Golf Course hours are <br />sunrise to 930pm <br />st. <br /> <br />New Golf Manager hired- Doug Casterelli starting Oct. 1 <br /> <br /> <br />Washington University’s Graduate School of Architecture designing and constructing a new <br />cedar rain shelter for the golf course. <br /> <br /> <br />Rain garden to be oversized and positioned on north edge of #8 and south edge of #2 will channel <br />and allow water to run off naturally, this won’t affect the cart path. <br /> <br /> <br />Flood Sept. 14 affected lower level of Centennial Commons, massive cleanup done and center <br />was able to open the next day. Centennial Commons employees worked overnight for one week <br />as Red Cross housed shelter for displaced individuals and families inside the center. Most <br />victims were from Hafner apartments, Wilson St. and a few from North County. <br /> <br /> <br />
