Park Master Plan Discussion <br />Nancy MacCartney reviewed the Prioritization of Capital Needs and Major Conclusions and Recommendations <br />chapters. Ms. MacCartney took questions and gave answers regarding items such as playgrounds, athletic fields, <br />U City Sports Association relationship, basketball courts, ponds, dept. staff, etc. Request was made to see <br />agreement between Nancy and U City Sports Association. Several members had blank spreadsheets so it was <br />decided that packets will be resent for the next meeting. <br /> <br /> <br />Department Report <br />Ms. MacCartney reported on: <br /> <br /> <br />Golf driving range - Driving Range grand opening was successful, Golf Course hours are sunrise to <br />930pm <br /> <br /> <br />Washington University’s Graduate School of Architecture has started construction on Rain Shelter at the <br />golf course. <br /> <br /> <br />New climbing wall is being considered to be put in Youth Fitness area at Centennial Commons. Wall is <br />on treadmill and moves continuously but person will never be more than 3 feet off floor for safety <br />purposes. <br /> <br /> <br />New Federal Law called Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Pool and Spa Safety Act. This law requires <br />nationally that all pools to be modified to new grates of a certain size. Grates aren’t available yet. <br />Suction cannot exceed certain level. It is believed that Heman Pool will pass with new grates but <br />natatorium may not. It is possible that after December 15 no programs will be run at the Natatorium due <br />to liability issues. <br /> <br />Individual Park Reports <br /> <br />Ruth Park Golf Course <br /> <br /> – no report available at this time <br /> <br />Millar <br /> <br /> – Recycling bins are being used. There are chunks of dirt washed out by the walking path on the <br />south edge of the park that need to be repaired. <br /> <br />Rabe and Ackert <br /> <br />- no problems <br /> <br />Kaufman <br /> <br />– brush is being cleared and cut back. <br /> <br />Mona Terrace <br /> <br />- erosion at fence but park is in good condition despite flood. FEMA to pay for erosion at <br />fence if approved. <br /> <br />Mooney <br /> <br />- No report at this time. <br /> <br />Heman Park <br /> <br />-1 new tree on west side of pool appears to be dead. Utility poles by basketball courts are in <br />need of repair. <br /> <br />Majeris and Metcalf <br /> <br />- no problems <br /> <br />Kingsland and Eastgate <br /> <br />- no report <br /> <br />Fogerty and Lewis <br /> <br />- no report <br /> <br />Old Business <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />New Business <br /> <br /> <br />Feedback via letter is to be given when citizens attend and make comments. <br /> <br /> <br />Karen Palmer suggests folder/binder for people to come in and view to be located at Centennial <br />Commons. Nancy agrees that current information and approved minutes be in this binder along with <br />information on where to go to get more detailed information. <br /> <br /> <br />Nominating Committee is James Sutton, Karen Palmer, and Caryn St. Clair-There will be no December <br />meeting so the nominating committee is asked to come back with names/suggestions for new members at <br />November meeting <br /> <br /> <br />Nancy MacCartney will check on vacancies <br /> <br /> <br />Voting will be done at November meeting <br /> <br />Meeting adjourned at 8:04pm <br /> <br /> <br />
