<br /> <br />Regular Meeting of the Park Commission <br />City of University City <br />April 28, 2009 <br />Centennial Commons <br /> <br />President Livingston Sykes called the meeting to order at 6:31p.m. Others present were: <br /> <br />Caryn St Clair Nancy MacCartney, Director of Parks <br />John Sweeney Rivian Robinson, Department Staff Liaison <br />Karen Dille <br />Mary Hart <br />John Sterbenz <br />Jerry Fitch <br />John Sweeney <br />Linda People, <br />Karen Palmer <br />Robert Wagner <br /> <br />Disposition of Minutes from March 24, 2009 <br />March minutes reviewed. Mr. Fitch notes error listing Mr. Wagner as present and listing him as absent on <br />agenda. Error noted and will be corrected. Mr. Sterbenz makes motion to approve with correction, Ms. St. Clair <br />seconds, all in agreement. President Sykes approved minutes. <br /> <br />Citizen’s Comments on items not on Agenda <br />The following citizens made comments regarding the possibility of the Natatorium closing. They are listed in the <br />order in which they spoke. Ethel Mariam; Mary Ann Zaggy; Pat Nelson; Worth Hayes; Mary Ellen Havard; Sima <br />Burkkart. All who spoke were heard and acknowledged. Replies will be sent accordingly. <br /> <br />Council Liaison Report <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner gave the following report. Janet Watson presented a public briefing on the state of the fiscal year <br />2010 U. City budget. She reported that the draft budget for 2010 unfortunately shows a deficit of $1.3 million <br />dollars and that this shortfall will be taken from the city’s operating reserve funds. At the April 20 council <br />meeting Mr. Rick Simoncelli was appointed to the CALOP commission and Mr. Victor Pichon was appointed to <br />the Civil Service Commission. Mr. Wagner reports that the Sewer Lateral Program appears in good financial <br />shape. Two ordinances were passed to update various aspects of our building codes. Full report is available for <br />viewing. <br /> <br />Department Report <br />Ms. MacCartney reported on: <br /> <br /> Cost recovery pie charts and explanation for Driving Range were distributed to all present. <br />Golf Course report was revisited and explanation given for monetary difference of additional <br />$7,800+ in revenues due to Range Shack credit card sales. Driving Range will have paid for <br />itself by end of May if current trend continues. <br /> <br /> Pool Entrapment Law- Plan to open pool on Memorial Day is still on. We have no word <br />from contractor for pipe redesign but we are monitoring this on a weekly basis. Per City <br />Manager, if grates are not installed prior to opening, we will open on schedule and install <br />grates at end of season. <br /> <br /> There is a meeting planned with Joylynn Wilson and Julie Feier regarding the natatorium <br />costs and what funds it will possibly take to repair the facility. When more information is <br />obtained it will be shared. Much discussion to follow. <br /> <br /> Natatorium operation and ownership is up to school district. City of University City should <br />not try to deal with or assume responsibility for this, although discussion is warranted. <br /> <br /> <br />
