<br />Regular Meeting of the Park Commission <br />City of University City <br />July 27, 2010 <br />Centennial Commons, 7210 Olive Blvd. <br /> <br />President Livingston Sykes called the meeting to Order at 6:30 pm. Other members present were: <br /> <br />John Sweeney Nancy MacCartney, Director, Parks, Recreation, Forestry <br />Karen Palmer Rivian Robinson, Administrative Secretary <br />Gwendolyn Gaines-Beckwith Lynda Euell-Taylor- Recreation Superintendent <br />William Field <br />Linda Peoples <br />Jerry Fitch <br />Excused Absence: Lynn Ricci, Karen Dille, Caryn St. Clair <br /> <br />Disposition of Minutes from June 22, 2010 <br />Minutes reviewed. Date needs to be changed from Disposition of Minutes May 25 to Disposition of <br />Minutes June 22 Mr. Fitch made motion to approve minutes with this correction, Ms. Peoples seconds, <br />vote taken, all in favor. <br /> <br />Citizen’s comments on items not on Agenda <br />Mr. Acme Price addresses commission regarding an issue at Golf Course pertaining to Resident ID cards. <br />He was required to pay an additional $1.00 for Non Resident Fees due to not having a resident ID. He <br />disputes policy and would like further discussion. He is informed that his issue will be addressed and he <br />will be sent correspondence from Park Commission. <br /> <br />Council Liaison Report <br />Ms. Ricci is not present. No report available <br /> <br />Heman Park Swimming Pool Staffing report <br />Ms. MacCartney gave detailed report of staffing issue and steps taken to recruit additional staffing so <br />that pool can remain open during weekdays once life guards go back to school. Credit and Kudos were <br />given to Lynda Euell-Taylor and Tom McCarthy for their hard work. Questions and answer session <br />followed. Mr. Fitch made motion to accept and endorse the report. Mr. Sweeney seconds. <br /> <br />Department Report <br />Ms. MacCartney informs commission members that thru July 25, 2010 attendance at the pool has <br />increased by 10,000 people from last year. Last year revenues were 45 thousand and this year they are <br />slightly over 50 thousand dollars. She informs us that the Heman Park Shelter is almost done. Flynn <br />Parks tennis courts are done, erosion control and landscaping is still to be done. Ruth Park Trail is back <br />on track. An acceptable route has been found and they are negotiating the design. Flynn Playground <br />resolution was passed by Council last night. Netting for the golf course is being planned. New Garden at <br />Heman Park Community Center will be planted and maintained by the seniors. University City did not <br />receive the NEA grant but is trying for the Tiger II grant which has HUD and DOT components. Questions <br />and discussion followed. <br /> <br /> <br />
