Park Commission Minutes – 12511, pg. 2 <br />Ms. Palmer suggested the commission’s recommendation be decided soon as the Heman Pool season will begin in <br />a few months and with there being no changes to the policy; we could really be in trouble. Ms. Dille inquired <br />about the upcoming summer brochure and if any mention was made regarding nonresident accessibility to Heman <br />Pool and picnic pavilion usage. Ms. Euell-Taylor responded the upcoming guide did not include any updated <br />information regarding nonresident usage of either facility. <br /> <br />Department Report <br /> <br />Mr. Winker reported on the following: <br /> <br />For the last month the Department has been adjusting to life without Ms. MacCartney. We are just trying <br /> <br />to keep the day to day operations of the department running and so far to this point everything has run <br />fairly smoothly. <br /> <br />We have acquired the St. Louis County Municipal Park Grant for work at Flynn Park <br /> <br />(New playground equipment with poured in place surface; Drainage improvements; Amphitheater; <br />Benches, Tables; concrete walks and water service for (future drinking fountain) <br /> <br />Consultant firm is in the final stages of preparing a report for the City Manager & Council with the <br /> <br />recommendations for department’s partial/full merger with Public Works, reorganization, etc. It is my <br />understanding that something should be submitted sometime in mid February. <br /> <br />Mooney Park playground Equipment Design display boards will be submitted by the two leading design <br /> <br />companies this week and in the not too distant future a meeting set for the committee to select the most <br />appropriate plan. You are all invited to the meeting and I will get the word out via email or phone. <br /> <br />Ms. Euell-Taylor presented to commission members the department’s welcome packet, which is sent monthly to <br />new University City residents. The packet includes a welcome letter, brochure spotlighting all Parks and <br />Recreation facilities and free pass to Centennial Commons and a round of golf at Ruth Park. <br /> <br />Individual Park Reports <br /> <br />John Sweeney – All assigned parks are being used extensively by sledders <br />Linda Peoples - Parks under snow; asked if Mr. Winker received calls from walkers regarding Fogerty. Mr. Winker <br />indicated not as many as received for Millar, normally snow is removed no later than day two. <br />Jerry Fitch - Ruth Park Golf Course – under snow <br />Karen Palmer - Nothing to report to due to the snow, son and buddies were on the playground design committee <br />Caryn St. Clair – Ruth Park Woods and Millar – both are under snow; compliment to Park Maintenance – walking <br />path were cleared in a timely manner. <br />William Field – Metcalfe and Ackert – both are under snow; have not checked the walkway. Mr. Winker <br />indicated the walkways are first priority for Park Maintenance <br />Karen Dille – Heman Park – great snow removal <br /> <br />Unfinished Business - none <br /> <br />New Business <br />Ms. Dille presented a letter from Centennial Commons' patron who expressed concerns regarding 1.) Delay in <br />repairing on one of the fitness machines, 2.) Balance appearing on their account and 3.) Being unable to watch a <br />certain program on the lobby television. Ms. Dille indicated she would contact the patron and either share her <br />findings with staff or have patron to contact Ms. Euell-Taylor. <br /> <br />Ms. Peoples raised a question to Ms. Ricci regarding changes to boards and commission term limits. Ms. Ricci <br />indicated some boards and/or commission have been the same for years and City Council is seeking to establish <br />consensus regarding appointments and term limits. <br /> <br /> <br />
