.

.

.

Minutes - Plan Commission
Page 6
March 28, 1990

Washington seconded the motion. As there were no other
nominations, Ms. Kreishman called for a vote of the motion; Mr.
Marsh was unanimously elected to the office of Vice-Chairman.

OTHER BUSINESS

Mr. Goldman stated that the City Manager had requested that the
Plan Commission consider the issues surrounding reuse or
redevelopment of the Famous Barr property located on the south
edge of University city along Forsyth Boulevard and extending
into the City of Clayton. The property has been the subject of
several informal redevelopment proposals; Washington University
is interested in the property as an extension of its campus and
office use. Discussions have also centered on the site as one
for a potential grocery store. The City Manager had suggested
that the Commission review the current zoning of the site and
examine what may be appropriate zoning for reuse of the site.
Mr. Goldman suggested that the Commission may want to talk with
the Clayton Plan Commission in an effort to learn what Clayton
hopes to accomplish with the balance of the site. The portion of
the site in University City is currently zoned "GC"- General
Commercial which opens the possibilities to a wide range of
commercial uses. Mr. Wagner and Commission members had several
comments about the development across Forsyth Boulevard in
Clayton and its impact on potential University City development.
Mr. McCauley expressed his doubts about the value of a meeting
with the Clayton Plan Commission; since most of the site is
within the City of Clayton, he felt that the University City Plan
Commission would be in a weak position to express what it feels
should happen with the property. Mr. Safe agreed. Mr. Marsh
requested that Planning Department staff outline for the
Commission the various zoning possibilities for the site which it
could then discuss fully at its next meeting.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting adjourned at 8:33 p.m.

M-3-28.PLC
