The motion was seconded by
Mr. Foxworth and passed unanimously

Second Floor Signing

Chairperson Ratner called on Ms. Cathy Lander-Goldberg owner of Picture Your Kid at 6380A
Delmar who had requested an opportunity to speak to the Plan Commission regarding the
prohibition on signs for businesses located above the ground floor. She told of the signs that
she and Monica Ashe of Robbi's Leather were required to remove and she asked for a change
in the regulations to permit such signing. A number of questions regarding the signs were
answered by Ms. Lander-Goldberg.

Mr. Solodar proposed that a sign be allowed at the first floor entrance to second floor
businesses, regulating the sign size on the basis of the width of the entrance and regulating sign
content (i.e.: which business names would be shown) would be left up to the building owner.
Mr. Schoomer suggested that consideration be given to modify the building directory sign
provision to allow a larger sign. Ms. Glassman thought that consideration could be given to
developing street furniture with directory information. Mr. Smith indicated his feeling that
businesses need signing. Mr. Solodar pointed out the possibility of changing the code to allow
signs for businesses with ground floor entrances as well as for businesses that occupy the ground
floor.

Ms. Ratner asked Mr. Schoomer to investigate participation by the Special Business District in
developing an awning program or curb side signing to address the issues raised at the meeting.

.
