This plan would
replace the previous plan, adopted in 1999.

Ms. Riganti provided an overview of the plan and the planning process. The Comprehensive Plan
Update of 2005 is an official policy document of the City on land use and economic development
issues. The Plan was prepared over a 12-month period and included a public participation component.
Several priorities were established during the planning process and include: redevelopment,
economic development, in-fill development, Olive Boulevard, light rail/MetroLink, preservation of
residential areas and mixed use development. These priorities are captured in strategies outlined in
the Plan’s six elements: Residential Neighborhoods, Commercial Areas, Housing, Economic
Development, Land Use and Redevelopment, and Public Facilities, Services, and Infrastructure.

Ms. Riganti then explained that the Plan Commission will hear comments on the plan this evening and
will then vote on the Plan at their regular business meeting on June 22, 2005. The Plan will be
forwarded to City Council for adoption. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the Plan
prior to City Council adoption of the document.
