Page 2
Traffic Meeting Agenda
April 7, 2004

Since the traffic westbound is greater than the traffic eastbound, the majority of the motorists will be
inconvenienced if the street is changed to one-way going east. Further, on a one-way street, motorists
tend to speed. The street is 27 feet wide for approximately 200 feet. The rest of the street, which is
approximately 1000 feet long, is 30 feet wide which is the average width for residential streets in
University City (see map attached). Two cars can not pass at the same time when there are vehicles
parked on both sides of the street. The cars park on the street due to the very few driveways available.
For the noise on the street, the Municipal Code already has an ordinance that could be enforced.

The Engineering Division recommends denying the request for a one-way street and suggests that
parking be prohibited on one side of the street and that signs for “no loud noise” be installed.

2.Traffic Engineer Assistance Program (TEAP) Study for Delmar Blvd. and Trinity Ave.
intersection

Please find attached a memorandum from the Planning and Development Department Director dated
March 19, 2004 and a letter from the Public Works Department Director dated February 9, 2004.

The Department of Public Works requests that the Traffic Commission review the TEAP
recommendations and provide your comments.

3.Request for left turns arrows at the Delmar-Kingsland intersection

This is just for informational purposes. On March 15, 2004, the Engineering Division sent a letter to
the Director of St. Louis County Highways and Traffic asking for more specifics relating to the
County’s denial of the installation of left turn arrows at the intersection of Delmar-Kingsland. On or
rd
about the 23 of March, Pat Palmer from St. Louis County contacted the Engineering Division and
provided his comments. The Engineering Division is working with the County on this item and will
provide an update at the next meeting.

4.Request to remove parking prohibition in front of 8161 Gannon

Please find attached a traffic request form dated March 4, 2004 submitted by Jason Gerhardt. He is
requesting that the signs be changed to allow residents to park or that the signs be removed.

An ordinance was passed many years ago that prohibited parking on both sides of Gannon Avenue, for a
distance of 250 feet east of the east line of Old Bonhomme Road, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and
1:00 p.m. on every day of the week except Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Six residents are affected,
and two of them are opposed to the request. See map attached.

2
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\agenda\2004\Agenda 4-7-04.doc
