Page 3 - Agenda
May 10, 2006

A stop sign is appropriate when a less frequently traveled road intersects with a highly
traveled road and traffic crossing this road creates a hazard and/or where a combination of
high speed traffic, a restricted view, and frequent accidents indicate the need for one or
more stop signs.

The Police Department advised that there have been no reported accidents within the last
3 years at this intersection. There are no warrants for a stop sign to be installed at this
intersection. The engineering division recommends that the request be denied and a
“yield” sign on Stanford at Amherst be installed.

5.St. Louis County Highway Department Response to City requests.

For your information, please find attached a letter from Garry Earls, Acting Director of St.
Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic to the Honorable Kurt S. Odenwald
regarding the uncontrolled marked crosswalk across Delmar Blvd. near the Tivoli Theater.
The County recommends that the uncontrolled marked crosswalk be reinstalled across
Delmar Blvd at it original location in front of the Tivoli Theater. However if this crosswalk
is reinstalled, a total of seven parking spaces would have to be removed on Delmar Blvd.

Also, for your information, attached is a letter dated April 10, 2006 from Garry Earls to the
City Manager regarding Pedestrian Concerns along North & South Road. From a field
investigation, the County decided that an uncontrolled marked crosswalk is warranted
across North & South Road near the south side of Amherst Ave. The crosswalk was
installed during the week of May 1, 2006.

6.Approval of Minutes for April 12, 2006 meeting

If you have any question, please call me at 314-505-8572

Thank you.

Cc: Evelyn Shields-Benford, Director of Public Works
Major Ernest Green, Police Department
Lehman Walker, Director of Planning Department
3
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\agenda\2006\May's meeting\Agenda 5-10-06.doc
