The residents from the 7400 block
of Blackberry Avenue requested that a stop sign be located on Amherst at Stanford.

Mariela Tapia from the Public Works Department stated that there are no warrants for a
stop sign to be installed at this intersection. A stop sign is appropriate when a less
frequently traveled road intersects with a highly traveled road and traffic crossing this road
creates a hazard and/or where a combination of high speed traffic, a restricted view, and
frequent accidents indicate the need for one or more stop signs. The Police Department
advised that there have been no reported accidents within the last 3 years at this
intersection.

The commissioners recommended that the speed limit be enforced by radar on the 7400
block of Amherst. The data should be reviewed and presented to the residents during
this meeting.

The engineering division recommends that the request be denied and a “yield” sign on
Stanford at Amherst be installed.

2.Parking restrictions along George Street.

Please find attached a traffic request form dated May 7, 2006 submitted by Alethea
Thomas. Ms. Thomas resides at 1282 George St. She states that residents do not use
their driveways and it is difficult to travel along the street because the street is very
narrow.

1
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\agenda\2006\June's meeting\Agenda 6-14-06.doc
