Currently, there is one vacancy. There are two new commissioners. th Due to a lack of quorum, none of the issues from the January 9 meeting were voted upon. We recommend that you visit the sites to be discussed prior to the meeting. Please call 505-8563 and confirm your attendance. AGENDA FOR THE MEETING 1. School District Request to Establish two (2) Pick Up/Drop off zones for Jackson Park School. Erie Gonzalez-Rubio, Operations Supervisor from the School District of University City attended the meeting on December 12, 2007. Mr. Gonzalez requested that: 1) A "No Parking - 15 minute - Pick up/ Drop Off Zone” be established on the south side of Balson Avenue from the south west corner of Balson Ave and Jackson Ave for a distance of approximately 150 feet to the west. The restricted times are from 7am to 4pm on School days only. 2) A “pick up/drop off zone” to be considered for the entire perimeter of the island at the intersection of Balson and Jackson in front of University City High School and Jackson Park School. Mr. Gonzalez-Rubio stated that traffic concerns have existed at Jackson and Balson for several years, resulting in double- parking and considerable congestion during the arrival and dismissal of students. Mariela Tapia explained that Public Works attempted to preserve as much on-street parking in the area for students, staff, visitors and buses as possible. Therefore, the request for a drop off/pick up zone is recommended for the south side of Balson, from the south west corner of Balson and Jackson, for a distance of 150 feet to the west, for 15 minutes from 7am to 4pm on School Days only. However, the drop off/pick up zone for the entire perimeter of the island at the intersection of Balson and Jackson in front of University City High School and Jackson Park School is not recommended to ensure the safe travel of emergency vehicles and for the general safety of school students. Public Works also recommends that the School District provide adequate off-street parking for students and staff on its private property. Sgt. King suggested that the School add parking spaces near the football court. This area is further from the School entrances but incentives to park there could be provided to students and staff. There was no quorum at the traffic meeting for January 2008 and the item was not discussed. Please be prepared to make a recommendation regarding this request.
