CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY
6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, MO 63130
Phone: 314-862-6767, Fax: (314) 862-0694

To:
From:
Re:

Date: March 6, 2008
Members of the Traffic Commission
Angelica Gutierrez, Project Manager
April 9, 2008 Traffic Commission Meeting

This is to inform you that the next Traffic Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 6:30
p.m. in the in the EOC Room (basement) at City Hall.

We recommend that you visit the sites to be discussed prior to the meeting. Please call 505-8563 and confirm
your attendance.

AGENDA FOR THE MEETING

1. Request for no parkinQ siQns to be Installed in front of 7023 Forsyth driveway.

On December 19, 2007, Rev. Andrew Benko, submitted a traffic request form. He is requesting that parking be
prohibited at the corner of his driveway at 7023 Forsyth Ave. and that the appropriate signs be installed indicating
the restriction. He indicated that signs are needed to prevent vehicles from blocking his driveway.

This item was discussed during January's meeting. Sgt. King suggested that Reverend Benko notify the Police
each time a vehicle parks and blocks his driveway. This will provide documentation on the severity of the
problem.

Reverend Benko will present documentation to the commissioners during this meeting.

2. Request for a Stop SiQn on W.Canterburv Rd at LePere St.

Please find attached a request received from Barbara Johnson dated March 21, 2008. Ms. Johnson is requesting
for a stop sign to be installed on W Canterbury at LePere St. to prevent accidents at this intersection.

The Traffic Commission reviewed this request on October 10, 2007 and voted unanimously for this request to be
denied and for parking to be prohibited at the intersection of W. Canterbury and LePere St. to improve visibility at
the intersection. Changes were implemented, however Mrs. Johnson states that visibility is good, but is not
preventing drivers on W.Canterbury to slow down to upcoming traffic on LePere Street.

There are two accidents reported in the last 3 years dated March 28, 2006 and March 16, 2008. Both accidents
refer to parked cars in W. Canterbury that were sideswiped by a driver that left the scene. A stop sign would not
have avoided for these accidents to happen.

A stop sign is appropriate when a less frequently traveled road intersects with a highly traveled road and traffic
crossing this road creates a hazard. This is a 'T' intersection and these two streets have approximately the
same width. Police traffic counts will be available at the meeting.

Public Works recommends for this request to be denied and a Yield Sign to be installed on W Canterbury Rd at
LePere St. It may be helpful to install a double-headed large arrow sign at the head of the "T", directly in line with
the leg of the intersection.

3. Request for a Stop SiQn at Lamb Ave and Liberty Ave intersection.

Please find attached request from Aaron Turner Jr. dated March 20, 2008, requesting for a stop sign to be
installed at any direction of the intersection of Lamb Ave and Liberty Ave to prevent accidents.

On December 28, 2006 there was one accident caused by an unoccupied parked vehicle rolling back on Liberty
and striking another vehicle. This was the only accident at Lamb and Liberty in the last 2 years. There are no
visibility problems and at this intersection and Lamb Ave. is a dead end street.

Public Works recommends for this request to be denied and a Yield Sign to be installed for southbound Lamb
Ave. at Liberty Ave.

AGenda Traffic Commission MeetinG March 12, 2008

PaGe 1
