Stop signs at Balson-Oakbrook and Golf Course-Alanson

Balson-Oakbrook
There are no stop signs at this intersection. There have been no accidents reported
at this intersection since April 2000 to the present according to the Police
Department records. The traffic on Balson and Oakbrook at this intersection is
low and about the same for both streets. Since this is a residential area the speed
limit is low and intersections around are not signalized. The view at the intersection
is not restricted.

The Traffic Commissioners voted unanimously to deny the request.

Golf Course and Alanson

The intersection Alanson and Golf Course Drive was discussed by the traffic
commissioners on May 14, 2003 and October 13, 2004.

Golf Course-Alanson intersection is a 2-way Yield intersection with “cross traffic
does not stop” signs displayed. The average daily traffic for both streets is very low
due to counts during the month of October, 2004. There have not been any
accidents since May, 2003 to the present.

The Traffic Commissioners voted unanimously to deny the request and to
request the Police Department to record the speeds along Alanson (from Old
Bonhomme to Golf Course).

3. Stop sign for the intersection of Berick and Stanford

The intersection was widely discussed especially for the unusual location of the stop
sign on Gannon-Berick.

Stopping frequently at intersections can create problems for traffic flow, is irritating to
motorists, and causes vehicles to use more fuel which is expensive and in
detrimental to the environment. There have been no accidents reported at this
intersection during the last 3 years, according to the Police Department records.

V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2004\Minutes 12-8-04.doc
