MINUTES OF THE TRAFFIC COMMISSION
MEETING ON June 8, 2005

were discussed, but Susan Schafers indicated that the streets have been dedicated to public use
forever, and are not for private use just for the residents living there. Sgt. Whitley said the Police
Dept. will monitor the streets and report back for the July meeting. Tim Moffitt pointed out that a
letter was sent to the residents asking for their comments by the end of June about the proposed
no right turns.

Approval of the Minutes From the April 13, 2004 Meeting

The commission unanimously approved the minutes.

Pedestrian and Vehicular Concerns From Residents of the University Heights II Subdivision

Refer to the attached copy of the memo from Charles Adams to Mr. Ollendorff, dated May 27,
2005.

?
Simplification of the “No Left-Turn and Through” signage for northbound Trinity

at Delmar: Tim Moffitt advised that he will contact County Highways and Traffic to request
less verbiage.
?
Four way stop at the Kingsland – Washington intersection. Tim Moffitt advised that

this request has been made two times previously and denied by the Traffic Commission.
The first time, the City improved sight lines by prohibiting parking on Kingsland just south of
the intersection. The second time, parking was prohibited even more, this time on
Kingsland on the north side of the intersection. Susan Schafers indicated in so many words
that it is not considered good traffic engineering to install unwarranted stop signs,
particularly to control speed. Moffitt suggested that we monitor the intersection over the
next several months and check the accident records as well.
?
Parking problems on Trinity between Delmar and the COCA building.

The thinking was that the parking problems are expected to be reduced due to the
construction that is practically completed.

?
Restrict Parking on Trinity Between Washington and Kingsbury.

The consensus was that there is no need to further prohibit parking on this block, since it
may be needed for the many activities in the nearby complexes. Moffitt stated that the ruts
in the tree lawn on the west side of Trinity can be corrected by the Street Division.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:00 p. m.

Minutes prepared by Tim Moffitt, Deputy Director for Engineering

V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2005\Minutes 6-8-05.doc
