Michael King, Police Department

?Lynn Ricci, Council Liaison

Notes:
?Mr. Greg Patterson and Ms. Jodie Ladner were introduced as new traffic commissioners

AGENDA ITEMS:
1.Request to make the intersection of Washington and Kingsland a four way

stop.
Mrs Stix, resident at 447 Westgate, requested that University City make the intersection of
Kingsland and Washington a four way stop sign. On a field inspection, the city has stop signs
posted at the East and West Bound locations along Washington at the intersection of
Kingsland.

Since this request came forth; the City has implemented the following to improve the safety of
this intersection.
A.Prohibit parking 30 feet upon the approach of the existing stop signs for

westbound and eastbound Washington.
B.Prohibit parking 25 feet from the intersection of the curb line with Kingsland for

the westbound and eastbound Washington.
C.Relocate the existing stop sign for eastbound Washington to be closer to the

intersection with Kingsland.

Commissioner Ladner agreed that the intersection was dangerous, herself coming close to an
accident on a couple of occasions.

Sgt. King stated that the low number of accidents at this intersection over the last 20 years
does not warrant a four way stop and that the new no parking signs at the intersection will
make it easier for residents to see oncoming traffic.

Commissioner Patterson thought that a four way stop at this intersection would only lead to
more congestion and would like to see how the new signage at this intersection helps the
current configuration.

The traffic commission voted two to one in favor of not adding any additional stop
signs at this intersection.
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2006\Minutes 10-13-06.doc
