Page 2 - Minutes <br /> March 8, 2006 <br /> <br /> <br />Currently, the average daily traffic on Forsyth is 25-30,000 vehicles. Washington <br />University is studying changes for both Big Bend and Forsyth and Forsyth and Skinker <br />intersections to improve their level of service. Washington University is building an in- <br />ground parking garage and the University is willing to pay for the costs of Big Bend- <br />Forsyth proposal. <br /> <br />The commissioners mentioned that the proposal affects the parking for the School on <br />Forsyth just west of Big Bend. Ms. Adelstein mentioned that the University may allow <br />cars from the school to park inside the campus. <br /> <br />The commissioners requested the accident reports for Big Bend-Forsyth intersection. <br />The engineers mentioned that the visibility is limited and the new proposal will reduce <br />the existing merging problem since the tapered area may be reduced. <br /> <br />The commissioners mentioned that the parking on campus in Washington University is <br />expensive and because of that, students park in nearby areas. Ms. Adelstein <br />mentioned that parking may be around $300/year (the minimum). <br /> <br />The commissioners commented that parking will be more attractive in the area located <br />past the field on the north side of Forsyth (east of Big Bend). <br /> <br />Ms. Schafers mentioned that the intersection does not appear to be very congested. <br />For the east-west movement, there is not a long wait for green light. <br /> <br />This proposal will be sent to residents for discussion at the next traffic meeting. <br /> <br />2.Visibility concerns at 7201 Stanford <br /> <br /> <br />The commissioners received a traffic request from Matthew Ferzacca, property owner of <br />7201 Stanford. Mr. Ferzacca stated that his sight distance is often obstructed when <br />exiting his driveway by vehicles parked along the west side of Midland. Mr. Ferzacca <br />wrote the County about the issue. <br /> <br />Sgt. King mentioned that Mr. Ferzacca situation is not different that the situation for <br />many of the residents along Midland, Delmar, Forsyth and other arterials in the City. <br />Residents have to be very careful and be patient getting in and out of their driveways <br />especially during peak hours. <br /> <br />On Midland Blvd. from Delmar to Olive, there are not many traffic accidents because of <br />the existing medians. <br /> <br />The commissioners voted unanimously to deny the request. <br /> <br /> <br />V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2006\Minutes 3-8-06.doc <br /> <br />
