Deken, Police Department <br />Robert Wagner, Council Liaison <br /> <br />Ordinance requires the Council to appoint 7 voting members to the Traffic Commission. <br />Currently, there are 3 vacancies. Therefore, the commissioners present decided to <br />continue with the meeting. Councilmember Bob Wagner was appointed as council liaison <br />for the traffic commission. <br /> <br />1.Stop sign on Amherst. <br /> <br /> <br />Lieutenant Deken presented the results from the survey for the 7400 block of Amherst. <br />The police surveyed the area on eleven different occasions to record the speed limit <br />and the amount of cars traveling the street. <br /> <br />The residents stated that motorists were able to watch the officers in advance and <br />motorists were lowering the speed limit. Lieutenant Deken mentioned that by the time <br />the motorists are able to watch the officers, their speed is already recorded by the <br />radar. In this case, the police monitored the motorists from residents driveways in <br />order to be unseen, and the results demonstrated that the vast majority of motorists <br />were traveling at the speed limit. <br /> <br />Lieutenant Deken stated that vehicles appear to go faster than they are because of the <br />geometrics of the street. Stanford Ave. has a curve when entering Amherst Ave. <br /> <br />Results showed that in 2 evening hours, a total of 85 cars were traveling on the street. <br />They counted 25 cars in 30 minutes and 13 cars in less than an hour during rush hours. <br />A stop sign on Amherst at Stanford is not warranted. <br /> <br />The commissioners voted unanimously to recommend no changes in Amherst Avenue. <br /> <br />V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2006\Minutes 6-14-06.doc <br /> <br />
