Page 2 - Minutes June 14, 2006 2.Parking restrictions along George Street. Alethea Thomas resident at 1282 George St. was present. She stated that residents do not use their driveways, they park on the street, and it is difficult to travel along the street and to turn into Wellington Ave. because the street is very narrow. She also stated that sometimes she has missed the refuse pick up truck. The truck can not reach the dead end because of cars obstructing the street near the intersection with Wellington Ave. George is a one-way street going north from the alley on the west, just north of Olive Blvd, to Wellington Ave. The width of George Street is less than 20 feet. This is an unimproved street that used to be an alley. Lieutenant Deken stated that emergency vehicles could have problems driving on this street when cars are parked. From the Street Division, we found out that the trucks used for snow plow/removal, for cleaning of the street, and for dumpster pick-ups also have difficulties traveling on the street when cars are parked in the area near the intersection with Wellington. The commissioners considered that George Street is serviced by driveways and that public services are difficult to provide because of cars parked on the street. The commissioners voted unanimously for parking to be prohibited on both sides of George Street at all times, from Melrose to the dead end. 3.Crosswalk in front of the Tivoli Theater Regarding the return of the crosswalk in front of the Tivoli Theatre to its former location, council liaison Wagner stated that the Loop Special Business District representatives approved the re-installation of the crosswalk and the removal of parking spaces. 4. Restricted Access Onto Forest Park Parkway The Traffic Commissioners reviewed this issue and stated that the businesses will be greatly affected with just one exit from the commercial driveway. The Traffic Commission recommended that: The City contact Washington University (since it owns the site) and urge them to ? resolve this situation. The Traffic Commission recommended that Washington University urge the County to allow motorists to exit the commercial driveway onto Forest Park Parkway (FPP).
