Therefore, it is important that STOP signs only be used where
they are needed. If stop signs are placed where not justified, the drivers tend to
disrespect them.

There are no accident reports for this area in the last three years; therefore these are
not considered dangerous intersections.

The Traffic Data provided by the Police and Public Works Department regarding the
speed recorded and amount of vehicles traveling on the street is as follows:

Location: Gay between Lafon and Old Bonhomme
Date: September 12, 2006
Time: From 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (1Hour 15 min)
Average Daily Traffic = 1200
Speed = 9% of the drivers over the speed limit

Location: Lafon between Gay and Old Bonhomme
Date: September 8 thru 11, 2006
Time: From 5:00 p.m. on 9/8/06 to 9:00 a.m. on 9/11/06 (64 hours)
Average Daily Traffic = 200
Speed = 7% of the drivers over the speed limit

The commissioners considered that the traffic data does not indicate high speed traffic
and that there is not a history of frequent accidents and/or sight restrictions in every
one of the studied intersections. Stop signs can not be used to control speed.

The commissioners voted unanimously to install a stop sign for southbound
Gay at Mapleview and to relocate the existing stop sign for northbound Gay
at Mapleview.

V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2006\Minutes 9-13-06.doc
