King answered that
Cunningham Industrial Park is the only area in University City where trucks can park legally.
Another issue mentioned by Ms. Underwood is that a lot of trucks park overnight on the streets and on the
private parking lots. Mariela Tapia explained that Police can issue parking tickets for trucks parked illegally on
the street, but for trucks parked on their private parking lot, the company can tow them at the company’s
expense, and Ms. Underwood agreed they could work on that.
Ms. Underwood asked commissioners to enforce existing no parking signs and prohibit parking at least on the
south side of Bartmer Ind. Dr. between Sutter and East Park Ind. Dr. and also on the west side of East Park
Ind. Dr. between Olive and Bartmer Ind. Dr. to prevent the unsafe situation for drivers.

The traffic commissioners recommended:
a.For the Police Dept to find alternative ways to enforce parking violations since most of the times

commercial drivers ignore parking ticket and do not pay fine.
b.Add parking signs as requested by the Eng. Division - No parking signs for a distance of 30 feet on

both sides of the entrance of Universal Sewing Supply facing Bartmer Ind. Dr.; and for a distance of
30 feet on both sides of the north entrance of Universal Sewing Supply facing East Park Ind. Dr. to
be installed.
c.For the Police Dept to step up their surveillance in the area

d.For the Police Department to investigate the acquisition of Trailer restriction Boot to enforce payment

of parking ticket.

2.REQUEST TO INSTALL CLOSING GATE ON INTERSECTION OF HAFNER PLACE AND CANTON

AVENUE.

Jim Cline from The Hafner Place Block Association, resident at 1276 Hafner Place presented his request to
install a flag type entry gate for the intersection of Hafner Place and Canton Ave, in order to keep the
street closed, to improve visibility of barrier, help prevent accidents and to improve beautification of the
neighborhood.
Mariela Tapia stated that on the municipal code, Hafner Place and Canton Avenue is listed as one of the
intersections under the section “Streets Closed”; in addition to that, she stated that per Mr. Cline’s
request, there had been a lot of accidents due to lack of visibility of the existing bollard posts and chains
and the solution would be to have a new gate more visible for drivers to prevent accidents.
Minutes – November 14, 2007 Page
1

V:\WP51\ENGINEERING DIVISION\Public Works- Traffic Commission\Traffic Commission\minutes\2007\Minutes 11-14-07.doc
