NON ACTION ITEMS
4. Traffic Requests under St. Louis County Highways and Traffic Department jurisdiction

Mrs. Gutierrez provided an update regarding recent traffic request submitted to St.Louis County
related to safety concerns for the pedestrian crossings along Delmar Boulevard. Mrs. Gutierrez
reported that “Advance Pedestrian Crossing” and “Pedestrian Crossing” warning signs were
replaced from 30” x 30” to 36” x 36” in size at all uncontrolled marked crosswalks by St.Louis
County. The work was completed on March 9, 2011.

5. FYI - Request to install signs for a blind resident at 8044 Lafon Place

Mrs. Gutierrez provided an update regarding a traffic request submitted by Mrs. Nancy Sachar,
resident at 8044 Lafon Place. Mrs. Sachar requested installation of the appropriate signage that
refers to a blind person’s presence, according to the MUTCD regulations. On February 7, 2011 the
Public Works Department installed “Blind Resident” warning signs with a supplemental plaque
below that indicates “This Block” at the intersections of Lafon Place with Gay Avenue, Old
Bonhomme Road and Mapleview Drive. On March 4, 2011, Mrs. Sachar submitted a written
request for removal of the signs along with a letter from her doctor stating that she is visually
eligible to drive in the state of Missouri. The signs were removed on March 7, 2011.

A new administrative policy to standardize the installation of this type of sign was presented at the
meeting. The Traffic Commission had no comments on the administrative policy.

6. Other

Commissioner Henderson asked Councilmember Crow for comments or updates from the Council
meetings. Councilmember Crow had nothing to report at this time.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
Minutes prepared by Angelica Gutierrez, Public Works Liaison

Traffic Commission Minutes – March 9, 2011 Page 4
