Opening Round:

A.Neville Rapp described the results of a law suit filed by EPA and the Coalition for
the Environment against MSD, which means MSD will spend $4.7 million in the
next 20 years to make changes that will eliminate spillage of sewage into several
streams, the River des Peres and the Mississippi. As a result, residential sewer bills
will more than double. It is a “win” for the environment, and “sustainability”.

B.Neville reported on the Trailnet “Liveable St. Louis Conference”, explaining that
there is NO plan for “Sustainability” for the region, but that Maggie Hales, of East
West Gateway Council of Governments, spoke about the large “planning grant” they
have received, hoping to remedy this. Tom Downs, an authority on public
transportation, spoke of the possibility that St. Louis could become a “hub” for high
speed trains, for the southwest, as the country utilizes trains more and cars/trucks
less.

C.Tim Michels stated he (his company) had bid on the city’s “Energy Building Audit”
and would resign from the Committee, if necessary.

D.Jerry Breakstone explained the Audubon Society’s new program (Audubon Home)
to inspect residential yards, and “certify” them as “sustainable”. Linda Fried will
have her yard inspected in this program.
th

E.Alice Floros announced that the Tool Library will have a pot luck party on June 18
in the non-park at Kingsland and Olive. She distributed fliers and said that everyone
was invited to attend the party. When they have enough people involved, they will
ask the city to provide a space to keep the tools.

F.Phyllis Blalock asked if it is possible to get brochures about the Green Practices
Committee; Linda Fried will give her some.

G.Donna Leach submitted corrections to the Green Practices brochure to Lynnette
earlier this week. Lynnette will make the edits and email it to Donna tomorrow so
that Donna can make the prints. Donna plans to print 100 and distribute as needed.

7/7/2011 8:26 AM
